Overwhelmed by the wedding rentals process? You’re not alone! Many, many couples (dare we say most?!) find themselves overwhelmed during this stage of the wedding planning process.  And for good reason: planning a wedding reception is new to most brides and their families.  The investment is large, and it is a significant milestone in their lives.

Thankfully, wedding planners, coordinators and designers who are experienced can help alleviate the fear of unknown components like rental items. However, if you don’t have a wedding planner, you can ask your venue coordinator to explain what you need to rent.  This confidant will be able to tell you from past experience what you should consider renting; plus, the venue may already have some of these items on site, saving you money and time in the rentals process!

Once you figure out what you need to rent, you’ll need to get in touch with a rental company. Fortunately, rental companies also understand your anxiety, so they often work really hard to decrease the potential pain points.  We recommend talking with several rental companies to compare how hands on they will be during your planning process.  Some companies will go as far as to deliver, set up/style and pick up the rentals for you!

In general, here’s what you can expect to rent:

  • Lounge furniture
  • Chairs
  • Tables
  • Table top items
  • Linens
  • Decorative items
  • Cake stands
  • Even dance floors!

Better yet, here are the top rental items right now in the wedding business:

  • Wood top cocktail tables, as they don’t require linens.
  • Vintage furniture collections for buffet pieces
  • Lounge vignettes designed with your wedding style in mind
  • Cake stands to elevate the wedding cake

But how do you decide on what you need? It’s important to get a good idea of the pieces you like and understand your priorities. What is your “passion point”? How do you want your spaces to look?  Your inspiration and vision will dictate what you should rent. Understanding design, small details and overall aesthetics will ensure rental items fit in with your vision. Ask for images of the rental items in real weddings so you can see how they look during a reception.

Your budget will also dictate what you can afford.  Knowing your priorities will keep your choices in check.  If the dance floor is your “passion point,” splurge on the LED dance floor; if not, a nice parquet floor will do!

And, while it’s always great to imitate what you’ve seen before, there is value in creating something fresh and new for your wedding.

Understanding your passion points, and making choices accordingly, will help create a custom or personalized approach that will ultimately create an energetic vibe perfect for you and your significant other.
